The Do's and Don't's of Freshman Year

Are you excited for college?

Are  you ready for freshman year?

Looking back on my freshman year , I realized a couple of things I should've done differently that probably would've altered the outcome of my freshman year. I've decided to list a couple of things that will help you to fully enjoy your first year in college. These things will help you navigate friendships, classes, relationships, parties and more.

The Do's

  • Be one step ahead of the game. Make sure to print out your syllabuses, have your books, all your neccessities before the first day of school.

  • Make sure to step outside of your comfort zone. Make friends from different cliques, Join organizations that interest you or pertain to your major, Make sure to go to parties and events held on your campus.

  • Invest in a planner. Make sure to write down important dates such as test dates, homework dates, social events, club meetings etc. This will allow you to stay on top of your obligations

  • Behave accordingly. People are always watching you whether its on social media or in public. Make sure to present yourself in the best manner.

  • Make wise choices. Make friends with the right people, get involved with the right boys/girls, make sure to always do your homework first before you have fun. Just make smart choices

The Don'ts

  • Don't get too stuck with the social scene. Always make sure to have a well rounded life. Have fun but don't overdue it

  • Don't be a pushover. Always stick to your gut. Don't let anyone make you do something you know you shouldn't do

  • Don't get in a relationship too quickly. Don't rush anything. It's okay to take time to get to know someone before you start calling them your boo, boyfriend, boo thang etc. Make sure to get to know the person before you jump into anything

  • Don't be stagnate. Always continue to grow and open your eyes to new things, new people and new ideas. This is the time to explore your passions and find out what you really like to do.

  • Don't procrastinate. I know people say this all the time but I'm telling you the sooner you get that project done, study and do your homework the better you will be. This will allow you to have a better balance with less stress.

I hope these tips help you conquer your freshman year. This is the start of the best time of your life. Enjoy every moment and explore your new world. Be smart and most importantly have fun

P.S this should've been one of the do's but start building your resume during your freshman year, join organizations that pertain to your major, become friends with people with the same major and become close with your advisors. Always be looking for opportunities to advance yourself in your major. Make yourself Marketable!
