What I Love About Being A Black Woman in 2019
Happy February!
I hope your January was a good month, if it wasn't you have another opportunity this month to do what you didn’t do last month. It’s also black history month, which gives us an opportunity to celebrate all the great things that black people have accomplish and continue to accomplish in this country. I’ve decided that the best way to kickstart this month is to discuss the things I love about being a black women in today’s age.
I hope this inspires you to not only love the skin you’re in, whether you’re black, white, mexican or any other ethnicity but that you realize how important diversity is and the impact it has on American culture.
Now, let’s get started!
Hair Versatility - One of the main things i love about being a black woman is that I’m able to change up my hair as often and as frequent as I want. I can have short hair one day and long hair the next.I used to hate my hair texture when I was younger and use to heavily depend on braids and weaves to feel beautiful in my own skin but I’ve realized that having the opportunity to rock my own fro is the best gift I could have ever received. There is so many styles that I can do with my natural hair, it might not be as curly or straight like other textures, but it’s mine and it’s beautiful.
Skin Complexion - For a long time, I used to hate having dark skin and use to feel very insecure in my own complexion but realizing the perks of having melanin in my skin, such as clearer skin and the natural glow you have in the sunlight made me realize how fortunate I am to have the skin that I have. It’s also looks great besides shades of orange, yellow, and red.
Thick Skin - Being a black woman can be tough and hard at times from being deemed un pretty and not society’s standard of beauty. It can take a toll on a young black girl but it can also make you stronger and attain thicker skin. I’ve learned to love my own skin and pay more attention to my own opinions than others. It’s actually the best way to be anyway!
It’s Actually Very Cool - If you’ve ever stepped into a room full of beautiful black woman from all types of background with different shades. You will realize how cool, astonishing, and amazing it is to be of black descendants. We not only have created a culture for us by us but we’ve been entertaining the masses for hundreds of years. We’ve created amazing music, hair trends, fashion trends, and even made big moves in other industries such as technology and medical. We’re the coolest, most ambitious, and strongest women around. It’s no wonder there’s a lot of other cultures who try to emulate what we’ve created for ourselves.
These are few of the things that I love about being a black woman in 2019. It’s so crazy to think that as a young girl I dreaded and resented being black in America. I used to envy other races for their hair textures and skin complexions but as I’ve grown up, I’ve discovered the beauty in my skin and in my culture. It’s important that we not only feel comfortable in our own skin but we raise up the next generation to feel the same.
I will be writing black-centered topics for the rest of this month, If you would like me to write about something concerning black culture, figures, or being black, please let me know in the comment section below.
