The Pros and Cons of Having Multiples Under Four

The Pros and Cons of Having Multiples Under Four

Whew. Let’s talk about this wild ride called having multiple kids under four. If you’re here, you probably either havethem, want them, or you’re just curious about what our daily chaos looks like.

As a mom who's knee-deep in it, renting my parents’ place while trying to juggle work, keep these littles alive, and still find me somewhere in the mix—I got you. Let’s break it down, real talk style.

Pros

1. Built-in Best Friends
They’re close enough in age that they get each other. They’ll play together (even if it ends in tears half the time), and you get to see those little bonds form. It’s heart-melting when they share snacks or have their own little inside jokes.

2. One Stage, All at Once
Potty training? Sleep regression? Just knock it out together. It’s hard as hell, but you’re not dragging it out for a decade. You’re in the trenches now, but one day you’ll look up and they’re all kinda... independent. Kinda.

3. You Become a Master Multitasker
You learn to do everything with one hand. Cooking with a baby on your hip, breaking up toddler fights, and answering work emails—simultaneously. Skills, baby.

4. Your Heart Grows in Ways You Didn’t Know It Could
They each have their own personality, needs, quirks—and you find room to love it all. Even on the hardest days, you get those snuggles or “I love you Mommy” and you know it’s all worth it.

Cons

1. The Noise Level is Unreal
I’m not even gonna lie—it’s LOUD. Like, can’t-hear-my-own-thoughts loud. Sometimes the only quiet you get is locking yourself in the bathroom for five minutes.

2. Expenses Stack Up Fast
Diapers. Wipes. Snacks. Clothes they outgrow in a week. If you’re not careful, Target will have you in the poorhouse. Budgeting gets real creative with multiples.

3. You’re Outnumbered
Two hands, three (or more) littles. Math is not on your side. Grocery trips alone? May the odds be ever in your favor.

4. It’s Easy to Lose Yourself
You’re so busy being mom, nurse, referee, teacher, chef...you forget about you. Even showers feel optional some days.

Look. It’s not easy. It’s messy, exhausting, and sometimes you’ll just cry it out in the car. But there’s so much joy in this season too. Watching them grow up together is beautiful, even if you’re surviving on coffee and vibes.

To every mama out there with multiples under four—you’re doing amazing. Don’t let anyone tell you different. Remember to take a breath, give yourself some grace, and know you’re not alone.

We’re all figuring it out, one chaotic day at a time.

Love y’all. Stay connected—I’m always here sharing the real, every Thursday on The Lazy Mom Collective.
